Hiya
Does anyone else here like Alice Cooper? I think he's the best. Happy to chat about him with anyone if there is anyone else out there (not many of us around I don't think).

I've always liked Alice...don't listen to him much anymore, but I was actually around when Killer was released, and I thought it was one of the best albums I'd ever heard at the time, LOL. Marilyn Manson stole his schtick, but I never have thought he was nearly as good at it. Even though I kind of lost interest over the years, I went to see Alice in concert about 15 years or so ago...he played in a building on our state fairgrounds that's normally used as a livestock barn when the fair's in town, LOL. He was great though...used the guillotine, the gallows, did Ballad of Dwight Fry in a straight jacket while a big ominous nurse tortured him in various ways...LOL, it was really like one of the best stage magic shows I've ever seen anywhere, and the music was really cool to hear again too...he's actually making a return appearance sometime next month, and I think I'm going to try to catch him again for old times sake....should still be fun after all these years..:D

Hi
I've liked Alice for years and I listen to his music quite a lot. I saw him live about 14 or so years ago when he came to the UK and played in a fairly small venue in Cornwall. It was my very first concert ever. It was brilliant. I managed to get quite close to the stage and didn't mind being squashed!
I must admit that I haven't bought the new album yet but I plan to do that next week. I'm not surprised that he is still recording, I always imagine that he really enjoys it so wouldn't give it up until he was forced to. The songs are still as good as the early stuff for me and some are even better.
I would like to see him in concert again but I don't think realistically that it's going to happen any time soon. He only seems to play a few dates in the UK. Never say never though :-)

LOL, yeah, being squashed is always part of the fun. You must have seen him right around the same time I did. I had all his records up through Muscle Of Love, but never got them on CD, and the records were played enough that there's barely any vinyl left now, and I'm too lazy to play them anymore anyway. Ain't technology grand? Anyway, I just kind of lost track of him after that album. I did know he'd started recording again, but don't think I've actually heard any of the newer stuff. Now you've got me curious about it though, I'm going to have to check it out.
BTW, I DID see him in a John Carpenter movie a while back called Prince Of Darkness. Just a small role as a pschotic zealot of some sort...no dialog as I recall, but he looked good and creepy...real Alice like, LOL.

The only movie I have seen Alice in is Nightmare on Elm Street part 6 (I think, may be 5). Alice played Freddy's dad in the flashback scenes. He was good. I have also seen him in another programme but I can't remember what it was called. It was weird like two old ladies who solved mysteries and he played a rock star or something like that. I know he also did the music for Friday 13th part 6 (He's Back).
For his newest stuff I would definitely recommend Brutal Planet and The Eyes of Alice Cooper. They are really good. The new album is called Dirty Diamonds. When I get that one I'll let you know what I think - although I am sure it will be great.
I have all the albums from Hey Stoopid onwards on CD, a couple on tape like Lace & Whiskey and Raise Your Fist & Yell and I have other albums that people have taped for me like Constrictor. I used to get the LPs from the library and tape them at home - hee hee.
Bye for now.

LOL...whatever that was, I'd really like to see it. :D The one other movie I remember seeing him in though was Welcome To My Nightmare...I'm not sure about this, but I think they actually released the movie before the album was released....I don't remember it real well, but I remember thinking it was pretty good...kind of like a long music video, but this was before the days of MTV, and I'm sure it was pretty revolutionary at the time.
I really hadn't realized how much he'd continued to record since I stopped paying attention...I thought he'd just done two or three albums. Thanks for the recommendations and yeah, definitely let me know what you think when you get the new one...I'm going to listen to some soundbytes, but you know...can't really tell a whole lot from that most of the time. Since you've stayed up to date with him, if you like the new one I might have to break down and shell out a few bucks to try it out. And jic, I'm sure this probably isn't necessary, but since you haven't mentioned any of the real old ones...gotta plug Love It To Death, Killer, and Billion Dollar Babies....I still think of all three as truly classic albums. :D

Hi
I love Billion Dollar Babies and also Welcome to My Nightmare.
I think it would be fair to say that I love all of Alice's music apart from a few songs. I really don't like Lost in America from The Last Temptation (really excellent album though), not too keen on Chop, Chop, Chop from Raise Your Fist and Yell and one or two other recent tracks, but I would say that there are only about 5 in total.
Still not got the new album yet - finances getting in way at the mo, hee hee! Will get it soon.

LOL, I hear you there...summer's always the worst season of the year for me....hot as hell and nothing but small sporadic checks coming in...especially years like this one when I've been too lazy to do much of anything on the side...oh well, means no new albums and lots of computer time, LOL. I did check out the soundbytes and sounds pretty decent from what I could tell...he's definitely still got the voice for it...not bad for an old codger who's got to be pushing 60 by now....gives hope to us all...:D

Just for info - have given it some thought recently and The Last Temptation is definitely my favourite album.

Well, I saw your post and went and listened to soundbytes....this sounds GREAT, LOL. And it seems like it's probably a concept album, and even has Chris Cornell on it. Now you've done it...I have to buy a copy of this one and check it out. LOL, really, listening to that, I'm having a hard time remembering why I stopped paying attention to this guy. :D

Cool. What have I started - hee hee.
Isn't The Last Temptation just the best album ever!!! I am listening to it now for like the 4th time this week. Cleansed by Fire and Stolen Prayer are just awesome.
I think by now that it's pretty obvious that I like Alice a lot :)

LOL, yeah, that HAS come through. Well, luckily Amazon's selling Last Temptation for $9.99...definitely seemed worth taking a chance on so I ordered a copy...should get it in a week or so, and I'll let you know what I think after I hear the whole thing. From what I heard of it, I'm going to be real surprised if I don't agree with you about how good it is though. I'm afraid I'm going to end up having to get tickets for that Sept. show he's doing here now, too  ...I know now, you secretly started this thread just to cost me money. :D

I am sooooo jealous that you are getting tickets to see him. You'll have to let me know everything about the show.
Marie - huffy and jealous ;)

LOL, yeah, I know how that is...I get huffy and jealous too sometimes. I'll definitely let you know how it was though, assuming my bones can still survive the squashing...they're a bit more brittle than they were the last time they had to survive one, and that was at a Primus/Buckethead show where I forgot my age for awhile and gravitated into a slam dance pit...haven't been the same since. :( LOL, anyway, I don't actually know why Alice is coming this time, but it's probably part of a tour to promote the new album...if so, maybe he'll do a European leg after he finishes up here...you never know. Tickets here were only twenty bucks, too...should turn out to be a real bargain. :D
BTW, I was going to wait until after I got Last Temptation to post all this, but I got an e-mail from Amazon today saying my shipment had been delayed, so will have to wait on the album a little while...hopefully next week sometime, I'm really looking forward to hearing it now.

Hiya
I've just been looking at Alice's web page (http://www.alicecooper.com/) and listened to one of the songs from the new album. It sounds really cool and rocky. There are also some links for downloading so I'm gonna check those out and see what they are.
Just thought I would post that here in case you didn't know about this web site. It's a good site and does seem to get updated fairly often.

No, I hadn't seen that and it does look good, thanks for the link...it looks like a pretty big tour he's on too, both in Europe and the States...I couldn't even find our date at first, thought they'd just decided to ignore us, LOL, but finally found it listed further down the page. I only found 4 mp3's though, none from the new album, and none of the links were active any more anyway. I'd like to find at least a couple of songs off the new one before the show because I'm sure he'll play a lot of it, but no luck so far... it sounds good from the description on the site though...oh well, at least Amazon did send me a notice that my order had been shipped yesterday, so that one ought to be here in the next couple of days...still gonna post again after I get it, shutting me up is difficult, LMAO...:D

Hi
If you click on one of the images on the left hand side on that web site (think it might be the second one down) then it takes you to another page and you do get to hear one of the songs.
The downloading thing didn't work for me really. I started to download the itunes thing but it looked like you had to pay to use it so I didn't go any further.

Yes it is, LOL. Hey Taz. Weird thing... I first learned to play on an acoustic guitar, but when I finally got a chance to take a stab at electric, I think Eighteen is the first song I tried...many years ago, but I'm pretty sure it happened that way, LOL. Later learned most of Alice's stuff off his first few anyway. Never could manage to sing quite like him though, LOL.
Hey Marie...Last Temptation arrived today, and I'm listening to it as I type...course I'll give it full attention later, but I can tell even by listening to it with half my brain that you didn't steer me wrong on this one. Man, I really can't believe that someone I'd liked so much earlier put out an album that sounds this good in the middle of the ninties and I somehow managed to completely ignore it. Anyway, you have revived an old enthusiasm with your thread...now I know I'm gonna have to dig out those old records, LMAO....very cool. :D

Glad you are liking the album. I've just listened to it again today (got a day off work). I luv Cleansed by Fire, the last track. The only one which is a bit naff is Lost in America, but you can't have it all I suppose.
I think that one of the things that makes Alice so great is the fact that he is still putting out excellent tracks and albums after all these years while other people/bands find it a struggle to last 6 months these days. That just shows how good his material is and that is has long lasting appeal.
When I was at school at around 15 when I first started listening to him (just over 15 years ago now), my friends thought he was weird and didn't like him cuz of the way he looked. But when I played them some tracks without telling them who it was, they said they liked them, especially the more general ones like 'You and Me' and 'I Never Cry'. I just thought they were sad themselves then really. I suppose it wasn't really cool to like someone like Alice in the '80s.
Must stop now or I'll be here all day. I could talk about Alice for ages and ages. It would be cool if he had a board here. It would make my millenium to chat to him :)

I know what you mean about your friends, LOL...I was in junior high when he started in the early seventies, and what he did then just blew me away...he was really breaking boundaries then, both with his sound and his theatrics,LOL... and of course he developed a large fan base, had a number of big radio hits for awhile, but a lot of people really HATED him and everything they perceived him to represent too, LOL, and I mean with a vengence...me, I've always loved boundary breakers and was never shy about expressing it....you'd never believe how many times I was called a sick psycho and a lot worse for expressing my enthusiasm for Alice in my early years...ah welll, things really do change, at least a little bit...years later when I told a few people how great it was to see Alice guillotined, then have a hooded figure parade around stage holding up his severed head while a recording of Kate Smith singing God Bless America blared out over the speakers, and then finally have the figure remove the hood to reveal himself as Alice, laughing maniacally at the audience until the lights went out....LOL, well, let's just say I still get a few puzzled stares from time to time, bet I even weirded you out with that one, LMAO...I.m really looking forward to seeing and hearing what he comes up with this time, though.
She asked my why the singer's name was Alice
I said listen baby you really wouldn't understand..:D
