ALYSSA Update

Last night, as many of you already know, Alyssa attended a party to promote the release of a DVD entitled "The Concert for Bangladesh Revisited: George Harrison and Friends." The best part is that all of the artist royalties from the sale of the 'Bangladesh' DVD and CD will be donated to UNICEF!! You can read more about the history of "The Concert for Bangladesh" below. But first I want to tell you about Alyssa's outfit last night! Alyssa wore a beautiful green Sari and antique earrings that she got in India this summer. If you didn't know, a Sari is the traditional dress of Indian and Pakistani women, consisting of a long length of cloth. One end is wrapped around the waist, forming a skirt, and the other is draped over the shoulders and head. She looked stunning!

So I had no idea what "The Concert for Bangladesh" was, so if you don't know, I'll explain. "The Concert for Bangladesh" was the FIRST EVER benefit concert organized by George Harrison in 1971 . . . Staged on Aug. 1, 1971, at New York`s Madison Square Garden, the show raised funds via UNICEF for Bangladeshi refugees caught in the middle of the country`s battle for independence from Pakistan.

It featured Harrison performing alongside Bob Dylan (making a rare public appearance in the wake of a serious motorcycle accident), Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Ravi Shankar, Billy Preston, Badfinger and Leon Russell.

The results were critically important to UNICEF's crisis response in Bangladesh. The Concert for Bangladesh itself brought in $250,000 which was immediately converted by UNICEF to urgently needed aid. Artist's royalties from the release of the triple album boxed set and the concert film in March 1972 raised over $15 million for UNICEF in the decade that followed. These donations had a profound impact on UNICEF's ability to provide Bangladeshi children and families with the basic nutrition and clean water they needed to survive.

This film of the concert has been available in inferior editions for years and is now seeing its best-ever incarnation, with a clean-as-it-will-ever-be audio and video track. The new DVD restores the original 99-minute movie in 5.1 sound and tacks on a wealth of extras, including a rehearsal performance of 'If Not for You' with Harrison and Dylan and a soundcheck take on 'Come on in My Kitchen' with Harrison, Clapton and Russell, plus Dylan performing 'Love Minus Zero/No Limit,' an outtake from the theatrical release. The DVD will also include a 45-minute documentary, 'The Concert for Bangladesh Revisited 2005' There is also a CD ! All artist royalties from the sales of the DVD and CD will go to UNICEF!

Thank you for all of this information, Chelsea. Alyssa's outfit looked beautiful. She looked absolutely beautiful. She always does. :)

I'm glad that the world of 1971 had a way of finding hope and inspiration, not knowing what a gift of heaven awaited their company the following year.

Thank you, Alyssa and Chelsea, for supporting this important historical cause and helping to build hope for the children of Bangladesh.
