On Christmas morning as we were sitting around the tree opening up our gifts.
I looked at the happy faces of my 2 teenage sons as one opened his bizzillion gigabyte external hard drive and the other his midi interface and I couldn’t help but flash back to a time when they were just toddlers and just as happy opening up Fisher Price fire trucks and army guys.
It seemed like it was only yesterday…. and there I was welling up wondering,
where had the time gone?
And as if to further drive home that point, that evening I was watching TV and sure enough E was showing a double feature.
The 50 All Time Cutest TV Stars and Who’s the Boss the Untold Story.
Seeing Alyssa so young, knowing that she just celebrated her 33 birthday, I thought of you and wondered if you felt the same way.
What a journey you have had… watching your daughter grow up before the entire world…
Having every thing be so public… so out in the open…
I wonder if there were days
when you saw your daughter struggle,
when you saw her vulnerable,
when you saw her sad,
when you saw her have to re-invent herself…
when you let her go, with great trepidation, to parts unknown.
Did you ever say to yourself, “I didn’t sign on for this kind of public angst…”
And yet, she certainly has come a long way…
No doubt b/c she had her family by her side.
How proud you must be of all that she has accomplished…
Of how far she has come… and
How strong she has become.
Her life has passion and meaning and most of all… purpose.
Thinking about it Lin, I guess the best gifts aren’t the ones you can unwrap…
They’re the ones that can’t be wrapped at all.
They’re our children.
They are the gifts we give the world hoping,
through strength of mind and heart,
they can create a legacy…
A legacy that is filled with integrity and respect, insight and love…
Here's wishing you a New Year filled with peace of mind and spirit for all those close to you...
Always,
Vicky
