Steven Spielberg and Wes Craven are two of my favorites directors as well. ET, Jurrasic Park, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, etc. Wow! And Wes Craven reinvented the horror genre with the Scream franchise and paved the way for a new generation of horror films following that. And one of my favorite movies last year was Red Eye, Wes' latest. Quick, suspenseful, breezy film with sharp dialogue and great acting. :)
Other director's I like:
Nick Cassavettes, who directed The Notebook and the upcoming Alpha Dog.
I also think Clint Eastwood is a fantastic director. Unforgiven, A Perfect World, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby were great films with above par acting. I think he's skilled at drawing powerhouse performances from the actors in his films.

Yep, I haven't seen that movie in a long time but I remember it's one I really liked. Clint Eastwood also co-stars as the US Marshall pursuing Kevin Costner's character.

I think I may rent it next weekend. I can't remember parts of it so it'll be interesting to see it again after all these years. :D

Definately Hitchcock! I forgot him too in my list. Thanks for the reminder Trader! I also like Tim Burton's films. One of my favorites is Sleppy Hollow, which I thought was such a good film version of the Ichabod Crane story. Had that spooky element throughout. I haven't seen many of Roman Polanski's films before but The Pianist was an amazing film. I was very glad Adrian Brody won the Academy Award for his portrayl and Polanski for his direction. Very well deserved!

Yeah, that was a great one...I've seen just about all of Polanski's films and he's always been one of those who tends to either hit or miss spectacularly...when he hits the results often end up being some of the best films ever, such as Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown, and The Pianist. He's also made some small overlooked ones that are great, such as The Tenant and Bitter Moon. Last year, he made a new film version of Oliver Twist with Ben Kingsley which just disappeared almost immediately...I never even saw or heard a review of the film. I still haven't gotten a chance to see that one, but I'm planning on checking it out on dvd soon...I did see a couple of trailers right before it was released, and it looked great...and even those spectacular misses I referred to are usually somehow at least interesting, LOL.

You know, Sleepy Hollow is one of those real weird movies for me. I just about always like Burton's films, but when I first saw this one I didn't like it at all. I don't know if it was the mood I was in, or the fact that I was expecting something at least a little bit similar to the original story, but whatever the case, I pretty much hated it. Then, enough friends informed me that I had entirely lost my mind when I stated that opinion to them that I decided to try it again...and actually discovered that they were right, LOL. Like I said, I really have no idea why I disliked it so much on that initial viewing...does that ever happen to you? It's actually pretty rare for me, but every now and then, it happens...anyway, Sleepy Hollow has actually become one of my favorite Burton films now, and in fact I think I'll watch it later tonight, since we're having a storm...perfect storm movie, LOL.
