Vicky - With it's INSANELY cool title ;), how could it not be big?? I think those snakes would be hissing right about now, "We're going to get those pesky pirates.. and steal all the treasure" :D:D:D

Hi angela...
yes I did handle the snakes. they actually are awesome. They are very shy creatures with a "bad rap" like sharks. They are not "slimey" at all...but feel like silk, and they are not "cold" either. Their biggest fear, according to Jule Sylvester the snake wrangler/expert, is falling. When you handle them, the most important thing is to support them, and be quiet and calm. They seek warmth and darkness primarily, and so they will head for the warm dark spots...under your hair etc. That little tongue action is the way they "smell" they are not trying to bite you, and will really only bite if they are frightened, just like most animals....Like anything else, there are so many "myths" about things that make people afraid, but the more you know, the less fear you will have. I found them beautiful, interesting and intriguing. !!!

That is so fascinating Lin, I really didn't know any of that. When I went to Thailand last year, we were at this animal park, and this young boy of about 10 was handling this beautiful snake - it was bigger than he was... and he come up to me with a big smile (since I looked terrified) and placed it around my neck. It was a strange feeling; fear and fascination, but I am really grateful that he didn't take no for an answer :D
