I just listened to some of these released tapes. I have to say that if it was up to me I would say they should not be released. I listened to one women plea for her life to a 911 dispatcher. And the 911 dipatcher was on the phone with her when the floor colapsed and then there is silence as the line went dead. The last words out of the womens mouth was "oh god please, I don't want to die." There is also a recording of a firefighter who is trapped in the colapsed tower. He radio's in to say he is trapped and can't get out, he tells them he knows he's going to die. They are instructed to tell his wife and kids that he loves them and will always be with them. There is another call from a man who calls 911 to say that people are jumping from the towers, where is the emergency crews?
I don't mean any disrespect here.... Why would 911 release this? If it were my daughter trapped on the 83 floor I would not want to hear her last words of "oh god please, I don't want to die."
If that were my husband trapped I would not want to hear the pain in his voice when he says "I'm going to die tell my wife and kids, I love them and will always be with them."
We all might complain about the way hollywood makes movies of tragedy and recently has made flight 93 and WTC. But to release these tapes crosses a line. I understand it is the victims families requesting them. But why? Why listen to the last moments of fear and panic. why not play the VCR tape of their last B-Day party when they smiled and lived and loved. I would want to remember that. I am torn as to whether or not this is correct. My heart tells me that it's not.
