I am so glad you love those pictures! I do too! I actually printed them out and will frame them. Zoe is right...that is Lazar on the left, by 10year old Border Collie, who is one of the sweetest animals I have ever known, and that is EEK the Riot, aka Fearless Flyer on the right...although we just call him Riot!...and he is! He is FINALLY using his litter box...is afraid of nothing, and LEAPS from chair to chair, and my right leg to my left leg (OUCH!!) I have many "puncture wounds" from Riot. He ate all of Mr. Wink's kibble (my outdoor cat who "came with the house" and was a stray when we moved here 6 years ago,) and threw up all over the rug, "sprained" his "wrist" already falling off the bathroom counter, and has pooped at least 5 times in the sink....he is a RIOT!
I am feeling very sad today however. Mr. Wink, my outdoor kitty, has been loosing weight (I used to call him Monsier Fatso), and his nose color did not look good. I know he has been grieving my other little outdoor cat, a 21 year old tiny calico named Little S--- aka Baby, who we think was carried away by a red-tail hawk, and whom Mr. Wink was completely dedicated and devoted to. I took Wink to the vet today, and he was diagnosed with cancer. The Dr. says he feels 2 tumors in his belly, and there is not too much we can do, but give him lots of love, and comfort. Wink was a "wild cat" when we moved here, and the last week, Wink has been sleeping in my bed, purrrrrrring away all night long, while Molly my red and white Border Collie snores. It is like a concert in my bed! (Lazer sleeps in my son's room.) My heart is broken, knowing there is really nothing to do, but wait. The vet says there is "no pain," and to "use my judgement" if "we need to help him pass on." But I have been crying myself a river. Such it is when we have animals...they do not last forever, and their life span is really so short. But the love they give us in unmeasurable and timeless. :(

Hi Lin,
I am so sorry to hear about your beloved pets and their particular life situations.
Just the thought of having them pass on makes me want to cry too.
I guess it's b/c as pet owners we can totally sympathize with the heartfelt love that is shared between animal and owner...It really is unlike anything else b/c it os so unconditional.
Reesa (Nooker) has shared with us a poem written awhile ago that is one of the most beautiful expressions of shared love i have ever read.
It is in the forum called "OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS"
Here is the thread... I hope it brings you some peace.

Lin I can relate to EEK jumping from leg to leg. Mine did it too. It was not too bad when I had sweat pants on but quite painful on the bare legs. Luckily they outgrew it.

I am so sorry Wink has cancer but at least he will know that someone loves him & is trying to make his final days more comfotable. We also have fed various outdoor strays. Right now we have one that comes around & we call it TwoTone. I can finally pet it. There are days we don't see it & we think well Tutu is dead & then it shows up.

The poem Vick mentioned has given an enormous amount of comfort when I've had pets die. I hope it helps you.

Lin –

I’ve trod upon the very path your feet make slow progress down. I’ve said goodbye to so, so many beautiful fur critters who graced my life, enriched my soul. These goodbyes tear at our hearts and wound our souls but belong to the process of loving and caring for the fur children who share our days.

I won’t tell you I know how you feel… I don’t. I can image your pain, I can shed tears with you, but I cannot really share all that you feel. Just know, you and Wink are in my heart. The days left may be long or short, only Wink really knows for sure. What I hope you take from all of this is the realization of how much you needed each other, and how much you gave and continue to give to each other. For Wink, unconditional love; for you unconditional love returned – I cannot think of a treasure more valuable than this.

For now, know we share your pain and we are here to lend a shoulder to cry upon, to lean upon.

Your life is graced by the presence of a cat who must leave, in time, but will leave you so much richer for the experiences you’ve shared. This much Lin, I do know.

Aww Lin :( I am so, very sorry to hear about Mr. Wink. Like Kathy said, I can't say that I know how you are feeling, but I can imagine the pain that has occupied a place in your heart.

It is devastating to hear that such a loved member of your family will not be with you forever, and I can only offer you love and a shoulder to lean on if you need it. All you can do is offer Wink all of your love for his remaining time, making him comfortable and needed.

We are all here for you if you need us,
love Zoee

You guys...thank you so much for all of the sweet words. Wink-a-dink (that's what I call him sometimes when I sing "wink-a-dink-a-doooooo" to him...do any of you remember Jimmy Durante???...he was a wonderfu old comedian with a huge nose and a fedora hat, who did a little dance on his show singing 'wink-a-dink-a-doooo'...I used to watch his show with my mom and dad when I was little!)anyway...wink slept and purred all night in my bed with Molly too, and today he is out and about, and I just cooked him some chicken for dinner later, hopefully. Of course, all will benefit...Riot and Mimzy are already sniffing and meowing, and Lazer and Molly are all over me too...and I suppose I will have to have a taste myself. And I guess there is that thing I say to myself, "even if I don't ever see him again, he knows how much he is loved."

I'm glad that we could give you a little bit of comfort with our posts, Lin.

And I guess there is that thing I say to myself, "even if I don't ever see him again, he knows how much he is loved."

That's the most important thing that you can do, just continue to give him lots of love and affection, and you will feel that you've done all that you can and given Wink a life of love in your family.
