Economic development is a prime concern of the campaign agenda of Darrell Jordan, one of the strongest contenders to the seat of Dallas mayor in the mayoral elections of May 2007. According to economic statistics, an average homeowner in Dallas carries a very heavy tax burden to support the city. Darrell suggests plants to alleviate this burden by creating new jobs through economic development. Another suggestion that Jordan puts forward is to expand the potential business tax base of Dallas, especially in the southern sector of Dallas, to rebalance the tax burden and make it less concentrated on the homeowner.
The road to economic development is not an easy one. Darrell envisions a Dallas, where large and small companies feel welcome and committed to their success. Darrell believes that companies must be treated like the economic engines they are and that the mayor and Council must be dedicated to attracting businesses that will in turn bring in new jobs with good wages to the people of Dallas. Jordan also approves of the value of long-standing Dallas businesses that add character to the neighborhoods and create great destination points targeted by residents and tourists alike. Darrell promises to work closely with the City Manager to transform the City Hall into an efficient, helpful and user-friendly one.
