Hi Justin. My name is Pierre, French, student in a cinema school and huge film buff.
I wanted to ask you, actor and movie producer, what kind of movies do you prefer and if you had a favorite director. Because when you produce you must have a large knowledge of cinema's history and business.
Personnally I'm very fond of Stanley Kubrick. Do you like his movies ?
and, of course, there are others ones : Tarantino, Michael Mann, Welles, Michel Gondry ( Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind : wooow !!! ) and more others...
I also wanted to know if you're attracted by european cinema. Many american directors and producers are fond of someones of european directors. Tarantino is fond of Jean-Luc Godard or Jean-Pierre Melville. Clint Eastwood loves Jean Renoir and Truffaut. Scorsese is mad of italian cinema especially Frederico Fellini's movies. Lots of master-pieces in it...
Anyway I really recommend you the watching of european movies and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as me.
I don't like the situation of filmmaking in France nowadays. It is all and only stars and cash. And some of french directors and actors copy american movies to look like good. For example, if you know Gerard Jugnot, he made a sort of french " Pirates of the Carribean " with a deep sh.. director and an other actress-bit.. French screens are full of deep ****s likethat. It was the same thing in United States few years ago but I think american filmmakers and producers have been thinking of this situation for few years and gave us really good movies. I think American independant cinema is great : Little Miss Sunshine, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind... But some huge movies are good : Capote, Blood Diamond, The Departed...
So I'm very pressed to watch Romance and Cigarettes and see your work...
I really hope you'll answer me so we can discuss about cinema together.;)
Hoping great movies from you and courage in the Job. Bye
