Yep, in my state, kids can start driving at 15 and 1/2 so I've been driving for quite some time now. Good luck with your driving, Paul. :)

I can. Over here in my state we can et our learner's permit when we're 15 if we're enrolled in driver's ed. So I've been driving for about a year and a half now.

I remember I couldn't wait to drive and now that I've been doing it for 11 or so years I hate it LOL. I had to wait for my learners permit until I was 16. In between that and when my sister was old enough they changed the state law and she was able to get her permit at 15 1/2. Not fair! It's scary at first. "How can I stay between those 2 lines!!??" but easier than you anticipate.Just be cautious and pay attention!! Don't talk on the cell phones and all that distracting stuff.

Well, I'm 23 and have been driving for a few years now and have my own car, and can tell you Paul, IT ROCKS!! I don't know how I got along without it. Except my parents always drove me everywhere. I only got into one accident so far, and that was on my bike. I was riding at dusk on a really busy city street and got clocked by someone turning onto it who didn't see me. Well, I got insurance and my brother came and got me cause the bike was totalled. (Too bad the thing cost $3500.) But I love driving. And always do it SOBER<

very good advice! See, I talk on my cell while driving (won't be able to do that for long. they're changing the law) but I pay attention also to what I'm doing. What really frusterates me are people who can't multi-task and are really dangerous. I know I'm not supposed to but I know the line when I need to put it down.

Most of the states require that a person be 21 before they can legally drink but there are a few that allow drinking when the person is 18 (don't know them offhand).

It's actually a federal law now, I'm pretty sure. You have to be 21 no matter where you are. Last time I was in Canada, it was 19 though. Personally i think it should be like 12, but who listens to advice like that anyhow? I think my members of Congress have bigger fish to fry. Also the legal limit used to be .1, now it's .08. I don't know how I feel about that. It means one less drink for most people, many of whom had only had a few already.

In New York City you have to be 16 to get your permit, I got mines last year three days before my 18th b-day and 18 to get your license after you past your driving test. I the reason new yorkers have to wait a while is because we have transportion already to get around the city; buses and subway . My sister got me driving lesson for my b-day last year, I only took three. I was scare:eek:, when I took my first lesson, I'm going to try go back to it this summer.

I agree, I've always been puzzled how some states in the US allow people as young as 15 to drive while others are 17, etc. Personally, I think in this day and age, 15 is too young to drive. That's just my personal opinion based on the 15 year olds I know. I don't think they are ready to be behind the wheel of a car on their own. If the rule is drive with a parent at 15, I think that would be okay.
But I love driving. And always do it SOBER<

Sound advice, Larry! Also, don't speed. As the very true saying goes, it's better to reach your destination late, than to never reach your destination at all.

In the UK it's already the law that u can't drive and be on your mobile u also cant smoke. I think it weird, the whole law completly is weird. For example they say at 16 you take responsibility of becoming a parent, but your not responsible 2 drink? I think 17 is good age 2learn how to drive though so i agree with that law lol. The smoking ban is coming 2 UK on July 1st aswell NO smoking in pub.

I was able to drive until I was 34. That's when I came to Bradner. Since then, all I have "driven" is a manual wheelchair and now my powerchair. And some people always ask if I have a license to drive this thing and to slow down or else they'll have to give me a ticket!! ;) :p :D

Well do you have a license to drive your power chair?:p ;)
BTW - Ohio passed a law in January that there is no smoking in any public building - stores, restaurants, bars -all smoke free. Personally I love it.

The law is that if you are 15 and you are enrolled in driver's ed you can get your permit which means that you can drive with a parent or someone who has had their license for 5 or more years in the front passenger seat. ;)

New Hampshire has a similar bill (for bars and restaurants) pending before the Governor. From what I've heard, he'll sign it and it'll take effect 90 days later. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't smoke myself but I'm not sure I feel it should be up to the government to tell someone where they can and cannot smoke... It's been a hot button topic around these parts the past few months.

Paul, it's a great feeling getting your licence and the freedom that comes with it is liberating. Just take care, and watch out for all the other drivers. Even the best driver may find themselves in sticky situations sometimes, and it's best to be cautious and remember what your instructor/parent taught you.
I've had my P's (Provisional) Licence for about 8 months now. We can get our learner permit at 16; progress to Provisional One at 17, which is held for a minimum of 12 months. So, basically at 18, you can go for Provisional Two, which you hold for a minimum of 24 months. After that, you're fully licenced :)

Rye there's been an appeal to let private clubs (VFW, American Legions, Moose etc) allow smoking but so far nothing has changed. The government (state) did not make this decision. On our November, 2006 ballot, this topic was an item to vote on to allow or ban all smoking in public places throughout the state of Ohio. The people voted & it passed & went into affect in Jan. 2006. Democracy in action.

Ahhh...the benefits of democracy. I don't understand something though. Even with all of the warnings all over the media (radio, tv, newspapers, etc.) people still smoke. I don't understand. Why would you want to do something like that when all the warning signs are there? And who ever thought up sucking smoke into your lungs anyway? And by the way, I don't mean this to offend anyone who smokes because I know it's an addiction but it's just a question for anyone who can answer.
