I want you to all consider the young, and very attractive lady you see before you. You're all wondering why I am asking you to do this, and I have very good reasons as to why I am. We all see Alyssa according to our own light, what we project upon her as a person and what we would probably ultimately like to see in ourselves. But I would like for all of us to take awhile to look at her from the perspective of a dispassionate observer, and then also from the point of view that we all do have of her. You'll see why she is so special as a human being then.
Here's a young lady, born in Brooklyn, NYC who at a tender age decided that she would like to act. Her parents, over many years, raised this young lady in the best way they could. Imparted all the knowledge they had about being a responsible adult and respectable person...with a set of principles to live by. Nevertheless, this young lady also experienced life for herself, grew in confidence and went onto establish a good career for herself. It was also apparent that the lessons her parents imparted upon her, of compassion, love and kindness were blossoming within her. As she grew older, she became more involved in social work with those less fortunate. At first locally, and then she moved this further afield to encompass other places, other countries. She became an ambassador to various causes of note and has utlimately grown into a person that many have come to admire, and love.
Now, I want you to know why, I, myself see her in the light I do. I first became aware of Alyssa sometime in 1984 when "Who's the Boss" first came on air. Here was this little girl, very sassy, cheeky and some might say tomboyish in many ways, acting onscreen in her first real big show. I thought she was adorable and being 18 years old at the time, I wished this young girl would grow up because I wanted see how she'd turn out. I knew she was going to be quite a pretty young woman, and also I saw her talent was evident then, as an actress. Years later, as she blossomed into that young woman and played in various shows, both on TV and in the movies, I could see that she was developing into quite some lady...very mature yet not spoiled by the trappings of the life she was in. Utlimately, that young lady has grown into someone I have come to admire, both as an actress and as a human being. Truly someone with a personality that many a person would want to have. A wonderful kind heart, a quirky and funny sense of humour, strength of character and wisdom beyond her years. But most importantly, a sense of self and principles we would all be wise to take note of. Just read this of what Alyssa wrote, and I quote:
For me, there is no hope without faith. Faith in a higher good. Faith in our own divinity. We are right where we are supposed to be. There is a perfect system at work here. Pain, struggle, heartache, these are all things I've dealt with in my own immediate experience that inspired soulful growth and an expanding of the Self. It's my duty as a warrior of the human spirit to feel these lessons and proceed with the will of the heavens. To pave the way for a better tomorrow for the children that have yet to come. May my ideals be their reality. May their ideals be my reality.
The innate sense of spirit and wisdom expressed in these few words is quite astounding for one so young. Yet you can tell just by looking into her eyes that there's more than just someone there. There is a depth of sentience there which belies a very old soul, a being with great and long experience. A soul that has seen much, yet has grown to a potential of greatness which few in many lifetimes possess. Yet that soul has grown into a loving and gentle spirit. Then in this lifetime is showing just some of that potential that they have, and will ultimately develop. Alyssa is becoming a true Warrior of the Human Spirit...she knows within herself how to grow into that and I think she has become a great role model for those also wanting to discover that potential within themselves.
If I was ever lucky enough to find someone with even a small hint of what Alyssa means as someone to me, I would count myself very lucky. I admire her for her talents and committment as an actress, a compassionate heart and humanitarian, but first and foremost for herself as a person. Yes, I love her...not in the sense that it's romantic love, although like all males I suppose the thought had crossed my mind once or twice:) However despite of that, I care for her and I gladly count her as a friend of mine....and maybe oneday, if I'm lucky enough, I might get to meet her. Though if I didn't, it wouldn't matter. I would still feel as close to her as I do if I didn't and it's nice knowing that you're alive at the same time as she is...living life on this miracle of ours. As I have said once before in a post, she will always be welcome in my home, no matter where that is and it's a rare privilege that I offer something like that to someone I haven't even met in life....that's how much I feel about her.
Lyssie...don't ever believe that you're not as special as you are. Not many people these days show or possess the qualities that you have within you. You've come to mean many things to many people, but most importantly you've come to mean a friend to all of us here. You'll always be that, darling. We love you, and always will.
