On Sunday morning, at 2 am, my sister called me to tell me that my uncle died. Apparently he had a heart attack, caused by his lung cancer.
On Monday night, my sister called me again... this time to tell me, that my aunt (not my uncles wife...my uncle is gay) called someone that lives in my uncles condo in Florida, and she was told that the person just saw my uncle 45 minutes earlier, in the hallway. My family became suspicious, as they'd already begun planning his funeral and burial. So, my aunt called the police, to have them go check it out. My uncles partner answered the door, and said "We're fine"...meaning, my uncle is still alive. My family is FURIOUS at this... they had all been crying and mourning his death. He was also in on it. They changed their number, and I guess they want nothing to do with my family. My uncles partner was supposed to bring the cremated remains up to Massachusetts sometime soon, for burial... I am just curious...how far they were planning to go with this... I guess if you're gonna kill yourself off, you better thoroughly think things through.
Now, everybody hates him, and when he does die of the lung cancer, I think nobody will care. Maybe he was pushing us away, so we don't get hurt by watching him die of that...in any case, it's still a crappy thing to do to the ones you love. :(

Well, that sounds like a lifetime movie! I'm sorry that happened - as you said, perhaps he had a good reason for doing it in order to protect your family - or perhaps not. Only he knows. I have a relative (my step fathers' aunt actually) who's husband Larry "died" and she married his identical twin cousin, Jerry. How very Patty Duke - like. We call him Larry-jerry. No one is THAT stupid to believe it:)

My god and i thought my family did some wired things...
But if your uncle knows he is on his way out then maybe he is trying to distance himself from you all in order to protect you when it happens....

That's a terrible thing to do to loved ones. :( I'm so sorry to hear that this happened, Bill. Losing a relative is hard enough, but to have that loved one "fake" a death is really unimaginable. My best guess would be that perhaps your uncle was given a "time" by his doctors as to how long he has left. Perhaps his lung cancer has spread. When a person is told something like that, reasoning and clear thinking often does go out the window. He may have, as you mentioned, wanted to distance himself from his family, in order to try and make it easier on them, and on himself, for when he does pass away. Of course, he's done just the opposite and made it much harder on his family and on himself, whether he realizes it or not at this point, and that's a shame. :(

Thanx guys :)
I was never really close to him at all... I was more shocked/saddened over the lie than I was his death. I'm not sure how progressed the cancer is, but he is still working... ironically at a hospital. So, I think it's not that bad. I think the doctor told him it's too late to do chemo though... I'm starting to think maybe they're lying about this too... and maybe he is dying...of something else  :o
Everytime I read what I just wrote... I can't believe it happened myself... seems like something that would happen with Anna Nicole's life I think none of it has sunk in yet.
P.S. Giz? Too much info at the end, there  :D lol

Bill I am so sorry your uncle put your family through this "fake" death. Losing a friend or relative is always hard & then to find out it was all a big ruse is terrible. I hope you & your family can get over this quickly & move on. If your uncle wants to distant himself from his family that is his choice.
