Hey gang. Have you heard about this story? Wal-Mart sued a former employee who got hurt in an accident with a semi. The semi hit her car from behind, causing permanent damage. She lives in a nursing home and requires daily care. Her memory is also shot from the accident. Everyday when asking about her son, she has to be retold that he died in Iraq. :(

The family sued the trucking company and won about 477,000 dollars. Due to a clause in her insurance policy, Wal-Mart can sue to recover claims it payed out to employees when they win a judgement. Wal-Mart sued the woman for over 400,000 dollars.

Wal-Mart's reasoning for suing is that they are trying to be fair to other workers in terms of the insurance. Since when is Wal-Mart fair? They have had judments due to not paying workers overtime due to them. They are an anti-union company. Wal-Mart actually makes you watch an anti-union video when you begin employment!!!!

Also, the insurance companies work for a profit. We as Americans pay our premiums and the insurance companies try to deny claims as much as possible to satisfy the bottom line.

This is just another example of Wal-Mart acting like scum. This woman will never be the same. The family has already spent over half of what they won taking care of her needs in the nursing home. Her husband made the painful decision to divorce her so that she would be eligible for more benefits... and now Wal-Mart wants to basically bankrupt her. I'm sorry, but that just sickens me!

Update: Due to the media coverage, Wal-Mart reexamined the issue and reversed the decision. I'm very happy to hear this. This woman deserves all the love and support she can get. Hopefully the family can now focus on her care now that they don't have to worry about being bankrupt! :)

Typical of "corporate" anywhere. Greedy and just don't care about anything other than the bottom line. Half the reason why the world's in the mess it is (the other half of the reason...their greedy little political sidekicks).
