How about this? A writing assignment: “What Does Alyssa Mean to Me?”
Here’s my entry:
I was first aware of Alyssa years ago while, even as a child actor, she stole scenes on “Who’s the Boss”. I saw a pretty young girl – not overly beautiful, I didn’t think, but the kind of pretty that would become beautiful as an adult. Even then, the rich, deep eyes drew me in. I didn’t watch this show much, and as such, didn’t see her mature to a young woman. I think the next time I saw her, she was in her early 20s and I was surprised to find out that it was the same actress who had played on Who’s the Boss. Surprised, but not really. I knew she would become drop dead gorgeous. (I’m pretty sure this was on an episode of Spin City.) I was smitten. This was simply the most charming, wonderful, funny, personable, sexy, beautiful woman ever. But I lost track of her again. I never watched Melrose Place. Had I known she was on it, I almost certainly would have. It wasn’t until the final seasons of Charmed that I even learned she was on the show. But I do clearly remember the first episode of Charmed I saw. It featured this absolutely precocious, precious little dark eyed young woman with her hair in two little buns at the back of her head with big flowers stuck in each bun. I couldn’t tell you a single other thing about the episode. I was totally smitten. There was never a woman like this! I was watching the show with my then-wife who commented “Wow, she sure is pretty…” I don’t think I responded at all.
As I got to know Alyssa’s public self better, I became aware of a multi-dimensional woman who was not just pretty, but smart, outgoing, passionate, kind and altruistic. I think the altruism is what strikes me most about her. She cannot see an injustice without reacting with full Mediterranean passion. Her commitment to children alone ought to qualify her for sainthood. Her passion for sports is equally amazing. But that she should be passionate about anything is not surprising. This is a woman who has passion at her core.
But what does she mean to me? She represents pure unadulterated beauty, sure. She represents passion, compassion, caring, honesty, fairness, true. But what Alyssa represents to me more than anything here at this juncture in my life where I find myself a twice married, aging, single man, is that there is always the hope of beauty; of love. No matter how far away that chance may seem, this much beauty I think promises to us that beauty exists, and it exists for all of us. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, but the hope exists. This kind of beauty exists almost to define beauty, but also to simply speak of the Creator’s ability to make things beautiful. The dark, shining promise in those eyes exists for all of us, even those of us who will never be the object of that gaze. The perfect smile exists to say that there will be smiles for us; a smile for us, a special, wonderful, radiant smile designed just for us, for even the most common, aging, single, despondent one among us. I have hope in this. I have hope that there is a smile for me.
Alyssa simply represents hope to me, and God’s promise that we are all worthy of and entitled to beauty and love, wherever, however, and whenever it may present itself to us.
Alyssa is peace, hope, and love to me.

Jim, I am a great believer in the Greatness of God. Alyssa of course is gifted with much more than beauty. Her smile on the big screen or the small screen is there for everyone. Just like the Mona Lisa. She smiles and the world watches.
Believe it or not Jim we both have alot in common. I also believe in miracles. You see I have gone many, many years without a relationship. Honestly, Jim there where times I told myself that I would never meet a woman, much less the woman of my dreams. I was shot down in speed dating and was a consumate nerd in highschool, University, etc. On top of that, I am a man who gets by with just below average pay. The jobs I have had are not management, but Carwash attendant, Security Guard, and Telemarketer. What I am trying to say Jim is you and me are in the same boat. I also wish to have Alyssa gaze into my eyes. But enough about me Jim, we can both talk to each other about our hopes and dreams, ok. You really know how to write a moving essay.;)

I know what ya mean. Even if Alyssa just gave me a dirty glare I would probably walk around for the rest of the day thinking I just had the greatest experience of my life.:)

I've been associated with Lyssie and this (and her previous) site for near on 10 years, now. Although I have never met her in person and my contact with her has been limited to some conversations in the past, I have come to know her through her works and deeds.
I would like to consider her as being a friend, and if I was ever lucky enough to meet her in person, I would hope that we could make that "official":).
Just a maybe....

Hey Jim,
Read your article, nice article! I like seeing what other fans think about Alyssa and how they became fans, why they are fans. The part of your story I relate to is once you start to find out what type of person she is in real life, its impossible to not like her. I dont see her as a sex symbol at all, just don't, perhaps because I see her as Sam Micelli and think of her as a little sister? I dunno but she doesn't come off to me that way? Trust me I'm not a fan of anything other than the Cubs, Bears and Hawkeyes, but somehow this little Italian girl from Brooklyn hooks me on her fan activies, answers my e-mail (Years ago), starts a message board and basically hooks me on her mlb blog. Turns ME into this zombie like fan? ME? This is totally out of charactor for me as I dont worship other people and dont look up to hardly anyone for anything for that matter. But Alyssa gets the job done with me, just always does. Most of all I enjoy making Alyssa laugh or trying to. The thing I like most about being her fan is writing her stuff to crack her up. Make her laugh at me ya know, I love that the most. Loved Jim's article, hope to read more from other fans as far as why they are a fan and how they found her so to speak.

Oh, I can so totally relate, Kent! I could have written this post, it comes so close to what I feel. Not that she is not sexy. That's not it at all. It's like my mind won't allow itself to go there, almost as if it's sullying the real feelings that I have for her. I'm sure we all have a collection of Alyssa pics, and most people would find mine odd, I think. Most of them are very non-glamorous head shots. Closeups of the eyes, mostly. The least "actor-ish" pics I can find.
Sometimes I feel more like a doting father or uncle, sometimes like a love struck puppy. She represents so much to me.

I grew up in DeKalb, Kent, about 70 miles west of Chicago. My dad HATED the Sox (goes all the way back the the "Black Sox") and loved the Cubs. I was a Yankee fan simply because that was the mid 60s with Mantle, Maris, Ford, etc. Who wasn't a Yankee fan then? To me, those were the golden days of baseball. Bonds, McGuire and the bunch can't hold a candle to them IMHO.
I have never been a "fan" of any kind of star. I always thought that was just something women did. I never knew men who went to see a movie, for example, based on what female star was in it. Then came Alyssa. Zombie is a pretty good word. It's like freaking malaria! Although, if I could get a shot or take some pills to get over her, I wouldn't take them...
I would give a universe of stars, a kingdom of wealth, to be able to say that I made Alyssa laugh! I AM SO TOTALLY JEALOUS! I hear that you're one of the old timers that goes back to the early days when the girls were more accessible. I'd have to be revived with smelling salts if I ever got an email from her! Did you like bronze it and put it on the mantle? I bet it took a loonnnnng time to delete that email.

Wow Jim, that was some heavy yet informative reading. I enjoyed it very much. My feelings on Alyssa are similar to yours, so they don't bear repeating. However, I think this would be the right time & place to share my story.
Right around the time I started breaking out of my shell and socializing more with the opposite sex, I began looking up female celebrities online that would appeal to my tastes. I've been aware of Alyssa Milano for quite a long time now, but my admiration for her has grown tremendously in the past 6 months. My first full-fledged exposure to her was via a repeat of Charmed on TNT. The other three ladies from that show (Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan) are fine beauties, but Alyssa is on an entirely different spectrum of beauty.
More than just a mere sex symbol, she represents the yardstick by which all other women should be measured. When I first read about her charitable work (UNICEF, rescuing dogs from shelters, going to Africa, etc.), my appreciation of Alyssa grew tenfold. I'm glad that a person with such an enviable track record like hers can still be modest and caring. For that alone, I think she would make the perfect mother.
Since that day, I've watched the entire 1st season of Charmed and currently working through the 2nd. Furthermore, I've seen Alyssa in Wisegal (a really good movie which proves she has great range as an actress) and Commando (a guilty pleasure, but even then you could tell she was going to grow up to be a beautiful woman). To be honest, I've never seen a single episode of Who's the Boss or her stints on Melrose Place & My Name is Earl. Once I get finished with Charmed, I'll make sure I move on to those.
In short, Alyssa Milano's beauty is the kind that comes only once every 100 years. I have good faith that she'll be long remembered as a classy, beautiful woman who's had an illustrious career as well as a kind heart.

You've got something I can't resist
Things are what they will be
When I look into your eyes
They say to me that God still exists
You make me believe"
