This, from Earth Justice:

A Bush-era landmine is ticking away in the "Polar Bear Seas" --
last haven of America's threatened polar bears -- and we
urgently need you to help defuse it.
Our government is about to lease more than 73 million acres of
these vulnerable Arctic waters for the kind of oil and gas
development that destroys animal habitat and disrupts Native
Alaskan communities. Amid cries of "Drill, baby, drill," this
leasing scheme was rushed through late last year with almost no
consideration of its devastating potential impacts.

Fortunately, President Obama is on to this plan and wants to
know what you think of it. So let's tell him ... now ... before
things spin out of our control.
Obama has instructed the federal Minerals Management Service
(MMS) to take your comments on the leasing proposal and use them
in making a decision on whether to proceed.
Tell the MMS to immediately halt this ill-conceived plan and set
forth a proper timetable for looking at the consequences. Do we
really need to rush into something that could destroy what is
wild and wonderful in the Arctic?
Ask the Obama administration to consider whether we want a few
years of oil and gas in trade for the lifetime loss of polar
bears, endangered bowhead whales, beluga whales, walrus, seals,
migratory birds and other creatures. And for that matter, is it
fair to Native Alaskans?
Remind the administration that global warming has already hurt
this remarkable region more than any other place on earth. Why
would we pile on the inevitable harms associated with industrial
oil and gas development? Without having any way to clean a major
oil spill from such icy areas, isn't it lunacy to allow drilling
that even Bush admits has a 40-percent chance of causing such a
spill?

Arctic seas.
